Decoding Eating Disorders

As a continuation of our work around the mother and how our relationship with her could affect our relationship with food, this module addresses eating disorders. Bulimia and anorexia are emotionally very painful for the person who suffers from them as they usually feel that no one understands them; this is especially true for the person with anorexia.

Bulimia is a conflict of the area between the mouth and the stomach, as the person with bulimia simply doesn’t want the stomach ever to be full because what they are looking for is to be eternally connected to the source of nourishment, the mother. These episodes occur due to a sudden separation between the mother and baby suffered at an early age. It is the work of an Emotional Biodecoding facilitator to find that exact moment and release the feeling of abandonment within that.

Anorexia is also an eating disorder, but here we must talk about Freud’s psychic inversion and how we relate this to the unconscious of the person with anorexia. It is essential that the person with anorexia finally feels as though they have been understood. When the consultant feels this acknowledgement, they can comprehend the essence of their symptom.

As this module is centred around the mother, we will spend one day involved in dynamics based on systemic therapy and the interrupted reaching-out movement.
